GAUL, TURONES The Turones (or Turoni) were a Celtic tribe in ancient Gaul, centered in the region now known as Touraine, France, with their main settlement at Caesarodunum (modern Tours), named after them. They inhabited the Loire Valley in the province of Gallia Lugdunensis. The Turones were among the first tribes to join the Gallic coalition led by Vercingetorix against Rome in 52 BC during the Gallic Wars. They also supported the revolt of Sacrovir in 21 AD.
