Eadberht with Archbishop Ecgberht
737–758 AD
Joint issues of King Eadberht and Archbishop Ecgberht represent one of the most fascinating phases of Northumbrian coinage. These coins highlight the close cooperation between royal and ecclesiastical authority during a period of political strength and cultural vitality. The standing or kneeling archiepiscopal figure is a distinctive hallmark of this series, and rare die varieties are of particular interest to collectors and scholars. Surviving examples are scarce and often display remarkable artistry for the period.
