DOMITIA 14. ROMAN REPUBLIC. 128 BC. AR Denarius. Moneyer: Cn. Domitius Ahenobarbus. Head of Roma right, * below chin, ear of corn behind. Reverse: Victory in biga right; ROMA above; below horses a man attacking a lion; CN. DOM in exergue. The reverse commemorates the defeat in 121 BC of the Gallic tribes under Bituitus by the moneyer’s father. Bituitus is said to have unleashed packs of enormous hounds against the Roman troops in an attempt to terrify them.
