TRAJAN
98–117 AD
Marcus Ulpius Traianus, remembered as Trajan the Optimus Princeps, presided over one of the most successful and expansive periods in Roman history. His reign saw major military victories, including the conquest of Dacia, as well as ambitious building programmes such as Trajan’s Forum, Markets, and Column. A skilled administrator and respected commander, he balanced military achievement with civic generosity and public welfare. His coinage is rich in variety and symbolism, celebrating victory, prosperity, and the emperor’s exemplary virtues. Trajan’s rule became the benchmark against which later emperors were judged.
