OTACILIA SEVERA
Wife of Philip I
Marcia Otacilia Severa became Augusta upon the accession of her husband, Philip I, in AD 244. Her coinage reflects themes of harmony, prosperity, and dynastic stability during a period of growing unrest in the empire. As mother of Philip II, she played a prominent ceremonial role, and her portraits are among the most elegant of the mid‑3rd century. After the fall of Philip I in AD 249, she survived the regime change and disappears quietly from the historical record. Her issues remain popular for their artistry and historical interest.
