MARK ANTONY
Marcus Antonius, ally of Julius Caesar and later rival of Octavian, was one of the most powerful and charismatic figures of the late Republic. His military skill and political ambition shaped the turbulent years following Caesar’s assassination. As a member of the Second Triumvirate, he controlled the eastern provinces and forged a famous alliance with Cleopatra VII of Egypt. His legionary coinage, struck in vast quantities for the campaign against Octavian, remains one of the most iconic series of Roman Republican silver. Antony’s defeat at Actium in 31 BC ended his career and paved the way for the rise of the Roman Empire under Augustus.
