GALLIENUS
253–268 AD
Gallienus ruled during one of the most turbulent periods of the Roman Empire, facing invasions, internal revolts, and the fragmentation of imperial authority. Despite these pressures, he initiated important military reforms and encouraged artistic and cultural revival. His coinage is vast and varied, ranging from high‑quality early issues to later billon and bronze pieces struck during the empire’s financial decline. Gallienus was assassinated in AD 268 during the siege of Milan, but his reign remains a key chapter in the history of the Crisis of the Third Century.
