FAUSTINA II (JUNIOR)
Wife of Marcus Aurelius
Faustina the Younger, daughter of Antoninus Pius and Faustina the Elder, married Marcus Aurelius in AD 145 and became Augusta upon her father’s death. She accompanied Marcus on campaign and played a prominent public role, earning titles that emphasised fertility, harmony, and imperial stability. Her coinage is extensive and varied, reflecting both her status as empress and the dynastic hopes of the Antonine house. Faustina died in AD 175 during the Danubian wars and was deified by Marcus Aurelius, who honoured her with numerous commemorative issues.
