Licinius I — Coins for Sale

Licinius I

308–324 AD

Licinius I rose to power during the Tetrarchic period and ruled the eastern empire alongside Constantine I. Initially allied through marriage, the two emperors later clashed in a series of civil wars that shaped the future of the empire. Licinius promoted traditional Roman religion and maintained a strong military presence in the Balkans and Asia Minor. After his defeat in AD 324, he surrendered and was later executed, ending the last major challenge to Constantine’s sole rule. His coinage is extensive and varied, reflecting both Tetrarchic traditions and emerging Constantinian themes.
