Carausius
287–293 AD
Carausius, commander of the Roman fleet in the English Channel, declared himself emperor in Britain and northern Gaul, establishing a breakaway regime that lasted nearly a decade. A skilled naval leader and shrewd propagandist, he issued a remarkable and innovative coinage that emphasised legitimacy, military strength, and cooperation with the Roman Senate. His coins often display high‑quality artistry and unique legends, making the series one of the most distinctive and historically important of the late 3rd century. For collectors, Carausius offers a rich field of rarity, variety, and political intrigue.
