Doge Michele Steno. 1400–1413. Silver Venetian soldino. Obverse MICHAEL STEN DVX, Doge standing left holding standard; star over letter D in right field. Reverse S MARCVS VENETI, winged and nimbate lion of Saint Mark facing, holding book of gospels. 0.4 g, 15.7 mm. These coins circulated (illegally) in England from the late 14th to the 16th century and were known as “Galley Halfpence”.
