Henry V – Penny, Class C (York)
WEH 8354
Henry V. 1413–1422. Penny. York mint. Class C; tall neck; mullet and broken annulet by crown. Reverse: quatrefoil in centre; annulet in two quarters. 17 mm. Struck from poor‑condition dies. The obverse die shows corrosion; the reverse die is cracked in several places. The dies are local rather than London‑made, suggesting either an official local striking or a contemporary forgery. Note also the annulet in two quarters instead of the usual one. An interesting piece. Spink 1785; North 1400.
