Henry III (1216–1247) — Short Cross Pennies
The short cross coinage of Henry III continued the long‑running design introduced under Henry II, maintaining the familiar cross that stops short of the edge. Although stylistically conservative, the series contains a rich variety of classes, moneyers, and mints. Transitional features appear in the later classes, especially as engraving styles evolved toward the long cross reform of 1247.
