Gaul, Leuci
The Leuci were a Belgic tribe in ancient Gaul. Their territory stretched between the Marne and Moselle rivers, bordered by the Vosges Mountains. The name, from Gaulish Leucoi, means “the bright ones” or “lightning ones.” The Leuci were part of the La Tène culture, known for their Celtic artistry and coinage. Their economy was agricultural, and they were skilled in textile production. They were conquered by Caesar around 58–57 BC.
