Anglo Saxon Strap-end. A copper alloy strap-end with a stylised animal head terminal. The body is decorated with a crouching, left-facing mythical beast in the Trewhiddle-style. The body and animal head still retains nearly all of the pale yellow enamel. 8th-9th Century. Thomas Class A, Type 1. North Yorkshire. 39 mm x 12 mm. Complete with both original rivets and an overall light green patina. A superb example of this type.
