Romano British Hod Hill Type Brooch. A copper alloy Hod Hill type brooch without the usual side lugs. The top part of the bow is decorated with three lines of notched ribbing, while the bottom part is plain. The whole brooch still retains much of its original silver or tinned surface. 1st century AD. See Hattatt's, Ancient and Romano-British Brooches, No. 313. Found near Oakham in the county of Rutland. 47 mm x 16 mm. Catchplate hook missing but complete with pin in the closed position.
